Rampant Lion Shield plaque
This lion head is a typical symbol of the
Roman and the Macedonian empires,
carried by Roman emperors such as
Caesar and Macedonian kings such as
Philip of Macedon and Alexander the Great.
The lion is a common charge in heraldry. It
traditionally symbolizes bravery, valour,
strength, and royalty, since traditionally, it is
regarded as the king of beasts. The
so-called Rampant Lion is a symbol in
England and Scotland and had adorned
English and Scottish shields in the Middle
Ages. This plaque depicts what these
shield as it looked like.
