Bronze cold cast Head of a Roman Greek Youth sculpture
Museum: Israel Museum, Jerusalem
Date: 1st century A.D.
Period: Roman Imperial
The original Roman cast bronze head with a mottled brown and green patina, on which our
reproduction is based, was part of a small statue about twenty-five inches high. Although probably
a Roman work of the first century A.D., the head recalls Greek prototypes of the fourth century B.C.;
such finds of Roman art are uncommon in Israel, and the statuette probably comes from one of
the major Roman centers such as Beth Shean or Samaria. Produced in cooperation with the Israel
Museum, Jerusalem.
