Our reproduction is based on the Medici Aphrodite-a Roman copy of a Greek original-now in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The original sculpture, no longer in existence, is attributed to the school of Athenian sculptor Praxiteles, about 300 B.C. The sculptor depicted Aphrodite looking sharply to the left and trying to cover herself with both arms, having been surprised while bathing. Produced in cooperation with the Vatican Museums.
