Archaic Spartans Greek Warriors Battle. This impressive plaque most perfectly represents the archaic Greek art. It shows two hoplites (ancient Greek warriors battleing each other face to face with their spears and shields. Both wear the famous Corinthian helmet with spiked horse hair coming down their backs. These Spartan warriors are best known for their stand against the mighty Persian army which invaded Greece at the beggining of the 5th century B.C. The famous 300 Spartans led by Leonidas stood their ground at Thermopylae and died to the last defending the entrance to Greece from the foreign enemy. The 300 Spartans and their struggle has been recently revived in the major film “300”. Cast stone and hand-finished in antique finish.
Made of cast stone. Cast stone is a type of gypsum cement whose properties are much different from plaster of paris which is what most sculpture shops use. Unlike plaster, which is soft, light and weak, cast stone is hard, heavy and strong. Cast stone feels like, and is heavy like a real stone would be, which can be experienced as soon you try to lift it.
