Head of Hippocrates – father of medicine – Museum Copy Sculpture. This is a replica of a museum original ca. 2nd century BC from the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. Made of cast stone with antique stone finish – placed on marble pedestal. About: Bust from a statue of Hippocrates that was found near the Odeon on the Island of Kos. Greek physician, traditionally revered as the father of medicine. Son of a physician, traveled widely in Greece and Asia Minor, teaching and practising his art of medicine. The famous Hippocratic Oath which is a sworn to by new physicians is attributed to him. 2nd century B.C. Athens, Archaeological Museum.
